Why the name Cloud Nine Learning — 3 Reasons
Names are a big deal.
When my husband and I named our four kids every name had to have significance. As a result the first and middle names of our kids mean things like, Virtue, Beautiful, Defender of Men, King, Fortunate, Powerful and New Day (New Day is the meaning of my youngest child’s name. She was born when I was 40 and my older three were 10, 13 and 15–so that was a new day for me, let me tell you.)
Naming our new business was no different. I am sure it’s a similar story for anyone who has ever done it.
My husband, friend and I came up with 50 names–some were pretty good and a few were really bad (like SteadMoore Learning–what was I thinking!?!)
After that I poked around to figure out which names had available .com URLs. Finally, I did a survey of parents.
After all that, we finally had it–Cloud Nine Learning!
We love it and hope you do too!
Here are three reasons why we love it.
1 – Cloud Nine means, “A State of Perfect Happiness”
The definition of Cloud Nine at Dictionary.com is “A State of Perfect Happiness.”
Happy students are more motivated and achieve at higher levels. Harvard research even proves this! And it’s not surprising when you think about it. With that in mind, our products will be fun and make kids happy!
2 – Our products will be in the Cloud.

3 – Clouds are Awesome!
Clouds move, change shape, and they are flexible (and sometimes, if you look really close you can even see faces in them!) Basically, that are awesome!
In education, it is very important for us to be flexible as well. Parents of two or more kids know how unique each child is–even children who have grown up in the same house. Every child must be treated as an individual in order to give them the motivation and skills they need to be successful and happy. We need to adjust to their needs. Cloud Nine Learning products are being created with the need for flexibility in mind–kids will have a choice about which activities they do and they can spend less or no time on skills they have mastered and more time on games with the skills they need.
Our first product
The first product of Cloud Nine Learning is a beginning reading game. As a tutor, I have found that going back to earlier, foundational skills in the subject the student is struggling in, is what allows them to catch up and advance. Over the past several years I have worked a lot with high school athletes on ACT and SAT prep. I have found in many cases that what they needed before test prep was instruction in earlier skills.
Providing enough practice on early reading skills will help prevent the need for remediation later. Making it FUN will keep the kids coming back for more.
